Six years after its initial release, we are beyond excited to finally press The Grease Arrestor's debut album 'WHAT WAS, IS.' to vinyl! We’ve had the tracks remixed and remastered for finer experience and the record includes bonus songs "The Freakout" and "Girl" from their sophomore album 'Volume II'.
Preorder now on unique split coloured vinyl and classic black vinyl. The album also comes with an insert featuring photos and story of The Grease Arrestor and the band's early days.
Preorders will ship out around 28th September 2020. For EU customers, the record will also be available from Blackspin Records (Greece) very soon. Please hang tight for an official announcement: www.blackspin.gr
Groove-drones and jangle freak-outs. 12 strings and 60s organs. Jiving rhythms and gazey fuzz-tones. The Grease Arrestor's debut album 'What Was, Is.' was a symbolic sign off on the band's earliest material that brought together sounds likened to The Black Angels, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spindrift, The Rolling Stones and The Warlocks. This album is sure to please fans of the jangly-er side of psych rock. The Active Listener called it “Byrd-gaze”, a “glorious hybrid of nineties shoegaze and sixties twelve string jangle”, which is pretty bang-on.
Some words from the band:
"Over the years we’ve held this project dear to our nostalgic little hearts. It was a collection of collaborative songs, created in the spirit of love, in an era when DIY psychedelic garage was flourishing in and around Sydney.
Tracked in rehearsal studios and crude garage environments with vintage guitars and mediocre recording equipment, producing this album was a journey to say the least. We’ve since revisited the original project files, tuning them up for the somewhat richer experience they deserve.
So here it is, remixed, remastered and ready to be added to your record collection."

Entrance is a beautiful opener. Nana literally has a sitar solo at the end which is insane... Nothing more needs to be said. Majupose has a sick bassline and it's in 7/4 which is cool, and Dripping Sun is a sonic experience that speeds up and down through multiple time signatures. This album is definitely the chillest thing they've released so far. Also the first vinyl I've bought on Bandcamp :)
CRAZY PSYCHEDELIC ALBUM!!! naakz
